Note: A nüMaps Lifetime subscription entitles you to receive up to four (4) map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for one (1) compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product. A nüMaps Onetime purchase entitles you to receive one (1) map data update for one (1) compatible Garmin product. The update(s) you receive under the nüMaps Lifetime subscription or nüMaps Onetime purchase (as applicable) will be update(s) to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. IT IS A GOOD PRODUCT, BUT BAD CUSTOMER SUPPORT.
A FEW KEY STRUCK AND THEY CAN MAKE YOU A HAPPY, AND A LOYAL CUSTOMER, BUT THE SEEN TO DO OTHERWISE MOST OF THE TIME.
THE BEST PART IS WHEN THEY ACCUSED YOU OF HAVING A “INVALID CODE”, “YOU ALREADY USED IT” OR “IS NOT IN THEIR DATA BASE”.
AMAZON SHOULD CONTACT GARMIN AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AT ONCE, THESE ISSUES ARE BAD FOR AMAZON AND ITS CUSTOMERS.
TOO MANY REVIEWS WITH THIS PROBLEM.

Not sure what happened here. Just received my card from Amazon – loaded up my Garmin – received the following: Invalid Product Key. Card is no good – I think I just lost $100. I did purchase the proper card that is “supposed” to work with my Garmin – I did everything 100% by the book – card is invalid. Not sure if these things have to be activated before mailed or what – but I can tell you this – it would have been worth the extra $19 to order directly from Garmin. Now I have to see if I can get a refund from Amazon – beware of this!

Garmin makes great GPS units. Too bad the updates are lousy. Not worth much. Their vendor keeps adding new stuff, but doesn’t take out defunct businesses and such. So the files keep getting bigger. Eventually your older unit will just run out of enough memory to load it all. Tom Tom next time for me; the user community can upload corrections to the database so their business model is simply better.

The map updates have many bad addresses for businesses and points of interest. The original maps that came with my Garmin had the correct addresses, but the update seems to have put many points of interest at incorrect locations.
Another thing to be aware of is that Garmin will not transfer the “lifetime” updates to a replacement unit. My GPS was stolen about a month after I purchased the update package and Garmin customer support’s answer was too bad, buy another. A few key strokes in their database and I would still be a loyal Garmin customer, but their products just aren’t that amazing on their own.

I own three Garmin units. A Nuvi and two etrex handhelds. I LOVE the units no doubt. I don’t relish the idea of paying almost 100bucks to keep them “up to date”. Think it through 1) Roads don’t really change much to warrant paying for new updates. 2) This plan only supports 1 unit, for the life of the unit. I’m pretty sure that three years from now I’ll be wanting another GPS with better features, and that one will come with a new mapset. And who knows, Lawrance or DeLorme or Magellan may come up with something better. Not likely but you never know.
Personally I think it would a nice gesture from a customer service standpoint that they would want to keep their customers units up-to-date all the time, not charging us for them. . but that and the extended service contract will tell you they see us a revenue source aren’t interested in service. So make them earn their revenue and don’t buy this unless you really find a need for it.
