The TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver works by using TMC (Traffic Message Channel) technology. The receiver acquires information through an FM radio signal broadcast by regional providers. By simply connecting the new TomTom GO device to the RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver, users will automatically receive traffic information via the TMC connection. Once a trip is planned, traffic alerts are clearly displayed in the traffic bar on the right hand side of the screen. When users tap the traffic bar, they receive further information, such as accident or traffic jam delays. The RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver is compatible with the new TomTom GO 920 range, TomTom GO 720, TomTom ONE XL and TomTom ONE 3rd EDITION and provides seamless integration of RDS-TMC Traffic information with the user interface of the TomTom GO and ONE product ranges.

I am about to buy this. I’ve been dying to find a product that works and will rereoute me through traffic (and not just simply pressing a button that says detour). I want a system that will predict the time if I go straight thru the traffic and if I go around and tell me which is best. I’ll report back if this works.

Also I’m surprised that the PLUS was even functioning in the US. I could never get that to work.

I found that the received unit did not match the picture, and was for a different model of TomTom. The third party Vendor, did try to satisfy me, by sending me a replacement, that still wasn’t the right product.

It would have been nice if the product description mentioned that some TomTom models apparently have the traffic built in, and only require some sort of antenna.

Eventually, the vendor did reimburse me, after I sent both units back.

I ended up going to a big box store & picked up the correct item, & installed it. The installation was quick & easy, & didn’t require any tools, (other than some spit). I did have to update the TomTom One, but that was easy too.

After playing with the unit for a bit, I was able to figure it out, the interface was easy & intuitive, & was able to set a home to work route pretty quickly. With this information the unit was able to calculate a traffic free route, and display a green dot, (no jams).

Since I take a different route home, than the way I came, the traffic module re-calculated, quickly, and displayed an all clear.

Since I commute in a major metropolitan area, I receive updates, as soon as I turn it on. I won’t really know if the unit will live up to it’s potential, until it saves me from some jam up.

I Bought the RDS-TMC Traffic receiver for my TomTom920. There were vertually no instructions. Online It is noted If have no Traffic acount. AWhen I click to buy traffic coverage whic is supposed to be included for free it returns me to a site where I have to do the same thing again with no results. I have had it a month in Chicago and it is just another antenna with nothing else, Totally a waste. I am surprised that Amazon would sell such a worthless product and that TomTom will not support it.

Item model number: 9V00. 080 is required for my unit, (TomTom One 3rd Edition) I was shipped 4V00. XX in a 5V00. XX box. The box did state it was for U. S. , but did not list my receiver as a compatable model. I have returned the antenna to the vendor and will either wait to buy the 9V00. 080 from TomTom or local retailor.

Simple to use – plug it in and you’re done! The traffic service has saved me many times during my daily commutes in the notorious traffic of Atlanta, GA.

There are only two drawbacks I’ve encountered.

    1) On a recent trip to Florida the antenna could not find a radio station that provided traffic information in rural Alabama, so I had to switch over to the wireless data connection via my cellphone (which gathers the info via satellite).

    2) You can’t use the antenna & the iPod connector at the same time because they both use the same input point on the device.

Other than those two minor details I’ve been completely satisfied with both the TomTom and the antenna.
